Blaire: 11 Months

It’s here! This is Blaire’s last monthly update before she’s a YEAR OLD! This update is the most emotional for me, and I think it must just be because she is becoming so independent. She sleeps in her own room, can feed herself, walk and she hasn’t used a bottle in a week! (We found the perfect sippy cup for her and she hasn’t seemed to mind drinking her formula out of those at bedtime.) It doesn’t seem like she should be this big yet! And I’m just not ready to let her be a toddler.

IMG_0608IMG_0003 IMG_0163This month has been so exciting. Blaire got her third bottom tooth and second top tooth, within only five days of each other. Getting those two top teeth in has been rough. Poor kid! HUGE NEWS: She is also walking! If you follow me on Instagram, then you got to see those cute, tiny steps last week. She dances and has started saying lots of new words. My favorite has to be “uh oh!” It is just so freaking CUTE! She is also a stair-climbing pro! She’s our little mountain climber. ;)

IMG_06842One of the most exciting part about Blaire’s turning 11 months old today? It’s Jason’s birthday! I couldn’t have asked for a better partner in life. He’s the most wonderful and caring husband and father. I’m so lucky to have him here by my side, every, single day. Happiest of birthdays, JP, from both your girls. ;)

Taking this picture of Blaire for Jason’s birthday reminded me of one of my favorite pregnancy chalkboards. (These pictures always make me miss my baby bump!) I hope you had a great weekend! Ours flew by, as always. xo

NYC

I’m back! I was in NYC for the past four days/three nights… It was fun, but I’m so happy to be home! I had been to NYC once before, for three days, to visit one of my good friends. She was the perfect tour guide and it was so much fun. This time, I went for work, with my boss/best friend and another coworker. (We went in search of new clothing lines for BB Children’s Boutique, in case you’re wondering!)

Anyways, it was lots of fun and I actually did better (being away from Blaire) than I thought I would. Jason sent me lots of snapchats and videos, and she looked like she was having so much fun that it didn’t make me feel guilty for being way. While in NYC, we spent a day at a clothing show, and two days shopping in the garment district. We met up for dinner and lunch with my friend Jackie. I haven’t seen her for over a year, since I went to visit her in October of 2013, so it was lots of fun to catch up. She’s getting married this October which means there was tons to talk about! While we were there, we had sooo much good food, including some New York pizza and Shake Shack. We did a little sightseeing, including shopping in Columbus Circle and Times Square.

While I was gone, Jason transitioned Blaire from her pack and play (in our room) to her crib (in her own bedroom). SCARY. My worst fear was that she wouldn’t let him get much sleep while I was away. Jason gets up early for work, and he had to get up even earlier to get Blaire to daycare. Between her cold and teething, she had been waking up for hours in the middle of the night, or would toss and turn for hours… Luckily, each morning I got a good report! She would go right to sleep and was only up for an hour, or less, each night. #success ;) She also had her third bottom tooth pop through while I was gone!

Blaire tried yogurt for the first time this weekend. We found this baby yogurt at Target. She LOVES it! We started with the apple and blueberry package and she seems to love them both equally. We are slowly transitioning her from purees to more solid foods, but it’s just not the easiest with only 2 1/2 teeth. Speaking of teeth… now that she has her two bottom teeth, and a top tooth that’s about half way in, she has started grinding them! It is the most terrible sound. Did your kid(s) do this? If so, was there anything you could do to get them to stop? I can’t handle it!

Last week Blaire had her first piece of cat food, and now we can’t keep her out of the kitchen! Any time she can, she makes a bee line to the cat bowls. So gross. Well, we’re halfway through the week… here’s hoping your last two days go by quickly! xo

New Year Ramblings

TGIF! It’s finally the weekend (woo hoo!) It’s been a long week here… Blaire was finally given an antibiotic for the cold she has had since the beginning of November. Thankfully it helped her congestion, but led to lots of lots of coughing and a very runny nose. I think she is finally starting to get over it the past day or so. We have had lots of sleepless nights the past few weeks…. One too many sleepless nights is actually what finally made me take her back to the doctor for the third time. I was convinced it was another ear infection. The poor girl has been battling her cold, getting in her third tooth and was way off of her schedule with all of the holiday festivities.

We spent New Year’s Eve at a friend’s house, for a parent/child party. It was fun to get out of the house and Blaire loves playing with/watching all of the other kids. Blaire actually made it past midnight… and then slept in until 9AM. It was an amazing way to start off the new year! On New Year’s Day we had some friends over for pizza. They brought Blaire her Christmas gift and she was SO excited to get to open another gift.

IMG_0121IMG_2720 copy

Blaire is really starting to get back to her funny, crazy little self now that she’s feeling better. She has started “dancing” now whenever she hears music, clapping or whistling. It’s adorable. She is also quite the little waver. Sometimes it’s with both hands, sometimes it’s only with her fingers (so it looks like she is casting a spell. HA!) and sometimes it’s just a normal, one-handed wave. She LOVES being out and about and seeing people, especially kids. She’s pulling herself up on everything and will even take one step from Jason to me, or vice versa. I don’t think it’ll be too much longer before she’s taking steps on her own!

I’m heading to New York tomorrow for work and will be gone for three nights. Here’s hoping Blaire wants to start sleeping through the night while I’m gone. I know Jason would appreciate it! ;) I’m so worried about being away from her and I know I’m going to miss that little face so much while I’m gone. I always feel guilty whenever I’m away from her. Does it ever get easier?

Well… I guess that’s all for now! Happy Weekend! xo

More Family Photos… (A little late)

Looking through my “Draft” posts last night, I realized I put this one together back in October and never actually published it! Since I LOVE these photos so much, I figured I may as well share it now. :)

To say I love our family photos is an understatement. If I had the time to sit and stare at them all day, trust me, I would. They turned out so amazingly, and they just capture Blaire’s little personality so perfectly. I just had to share a few more.

Hopefully she doesn’t want to kill us for those last two someday. Her baby rolls are just the cutest, how could we not document them?!? I actually went in to this shoot with the mindset that I was against “naked” baby pictures. But then our photographer found the amazing spot with the long grass and asked if we wanted to try some with just the crown. Seeing how happy she was and how adorable she looked in the crown made me change my mind and I was down to do whatever we could to document our adorable little girl. The floral crown was custom-made to match the little dress she was wearing. My friend Tiff at Tied in Twine  did an amazing job and she had such a fast turn around time. With Blaire growing and changing every day (or so it seems), I wish we could get them taken every month. I know that’s extreme. So, how often do you get family photos taken? I’d love to hear which milestones you schedule your photos for. xo

Christmas Festivities

I can’t believe it… Christmas has come and gone! We spent so much time preparing and it was over in the blink of an eye. Between our families, we spent three days celebrating four Christmases. Talk about craziness. While I’m sad that it’s all over, I’m so happy to be able to get Blaire back into her regular routine. Traveling means either shorter naps at odd times, late bed times and less sleep for everyone. And no one likes less sleep!

We spend Christmas Eve celebrating with my family and my mom’s dad (at their house, an hour away) with a huge lunch! Blaire was sooo excited about the first gift she opened, a stuffed Elmo. I am SO excited about Jason & I’s gift… a new Canon T3i. I’m so excited to learn how to use it and start taking some amazing photos! Later that night, we changed gears to celebrate my birthday with my family and friends at my parent’s house with pizza and cake. We tried something new this year and rushed back to town so we could go to mass at 10PM. Blaire made it through until communion, and we had to leave right after to avoid a giant meltdown.

Christmas morning, Blaire was SO excited about the stuffed pig Santa brought her. In her stocking was the “holiday version” of her beloved dolly. She actually screamed when Jason pulled it out of her stocking for her. I’m SO glad we got it on camera because it was so sweet. We spent the morning and early afternoon with Jason’s parents and brother, before heading an hour away to my grandparent’s house to celebrate with my dad’s side of the family. My cousin has a daughter, Elaine, who is almost two months old. She is so cute. We were able to get a photo of Elaine, Blaire and our Grandpa (their Great Grandpa) together on the couch and it’s so cute. We also got a group photo of the great grandkids. It was so fun to see them all together. We played lots of games, and stayed there pretty late. We got lucky and Blaire slept the whole way home!

We had a Christmas party with some friends on Friday night. Their son is just two months older than Blaire (his name is James and he is Blaire’s boyfriend), so it makes it much easier for us to stay there past Blaire’s bedtime. It’s usually as easy and putting her in his swing, somewhere away from the crowd and she’ll sleep until we’re ready to go! ;)

Photo Dec 26, 11 10 16 PM

Saturday we drove a few hours to Jason’s Aunt & Uncle’s house to celebrate with his dad’s family. Blaire got to meet lots of cousins! She loved making the rounds with everyone and provided quite the entertainment all day! This is usually the only time of the year when all of the family is together with some of them in Florida and some 3-4 hours away from where we live in Iowa. It was nice to get a picture of Blaire with all of her second cousins. While we were out of town, we finished off our night with a trip to the mall and dinner. I was SO excited because we stopped to eat at the same place we ate two years ago when we were there for our marriage prep class! And it was just as good as it was then. ;) Blaire partied so hard that she slept the entire way home.

Blaire is now a pro at opening gifts! got SO many toys, so now we’ll spend the new few days getting everything organized and put away. …Like I said, I’m sad it’s over, but I feel so much less stressed knowing that we made it through and that Blaire can get back to her regular routine. It’s rough when she only gets an hour nap at a random time. How were your holidays? Are they crazy and hectic, or easy and relaxing? xo

It’s My Birthday Week!

I can’t believe it’s only 4 days until Christmas… you know what that means?! Maybe you don’t. In that case, I’ll just tell you… Only 3 days until my birthday! We have been so busy this past week. We finished all of our Christmas shopping and have all of the gifts wrapped and under the tree.

Wednesday night was a rough night! Poor Blaire still has her cold and was still waiting for those new teeth to pop through. She wouldn’t fall asleep, and when she finally did, she would only sleep on Jason. She was awake for several hours throughout the night and was miserable.

Photo Dec 17, 11 39 28 PM

Thursday she was at daycare, where she would only nap while being held. I’m not sure what it was, but Thursday night, Blaire slept through the night! She went to bed at 8:30, and woke for a minute at 9:30. I went in and laid her back down, and she slept until I woke her up the next morning at 7:30! We heard her moving around a little bit throughout the night, but each time she got herself comfortable and fell back asleep. We were SO excited, to say the least! It felt amazing to get so much sleep, especially after such a rough night.

Photo Dec 19, 6 45 34 AM

Friday, Blaire left daycare with three Christmas gifts and she had so much fun opening them all. It was perfect practice for the week ahead. On Saturday we went to breakfast with Santa. Blaire could see Santa from her highchair during breakfast, so she basically kept one eye on him the whole time. He came over at one point (walking very slowly) and she was actually okay with it. She also sat on his lap for about 10 seconds before she started crying. Third time seeing Santa was a charm, I guess! ;) Then we headed back to my hometown for my work Christmas Party. I wanted a quick trim before the party, but ended up chopping off a couple inches. I figured I might as well embrace the short hair while I have it. Today we did lots of cleaning and relaxing. And FINALLY… one of Blaire’s top teeth finally popped through. It’s her top left, and I hope that means our girl will be feeling like herself soon.

Every year after my birthday I always think I won’t be as excited the next year as I’m getting older (ew). But once it creeps up on me I’m so excited because it’s my birthday AND Christmas! What could be better? How excited are you for the holidays? xo

Brunch with Santa

Last Sunday we had brunch with Santa! It was my MIL’s birthday, so it was the perfect excuse to have both sets of our parents come along. Jason, Blaire and I decorated cookies and made Blaire a Christmas stocking. Blaire was okay with Santa when he was standing a few feet away while offering her a candy cane, which she did NOT want to give up. Santa had a gift for each child there and Blaire was excited to help rip off the wrapping paper and then play with her new Elmo bath toy.

BUT… when it came time to sit on Santa’s lap for a picture, Blaire was not a fan. However, it was past her nap time. She was grumpy and hungry, and just not having it. Poor girl! I thought she might calm down if I held her, and as you can see in the photo below, it didn’t help. We still plan to take Blaire to the mall to see Santa. I’m hoping if there are less people around and she’s not hangry, then it might go better. PLUS, she has the cutest outfit to wear to see him. If you follow me on Instagram, which you should DEFINITELY be doing, then you already have seen a sneak peek! ;)

I just had to wrap up with a family picture! Blaire is looking down at our dog Mocha, in case you’re wondering. HA! How was your little one’s visit to Santa? What traditions are your favorite for the holidays? I’d love to hear them! xo

Blaire’s First Thanksgiving + Our Weekend

I can’t believe Thanksgiving has been here and gone, and now it’s December! We had a busy Thanksgiving Day with both of our families. Since my family lives an hour away, we went to my aunt’s house to have lunch with everyone (Except for my parents who are currently in Aruba. Must be nice!) We got to meet my cousin’s three-week-old daughter for the first time. She is so tiny and perfect! I can’t believe Blaire was that tiny only months ago. It really doesn’t seem possible! Blaire also got to enjoy ice cream for the first time. Saying she loved it was an understatement. We then spent the evening with Jason’s family. I think it was perfect to let Blaire end the night there because it was just the 6 of us. It let her unwind and play off the sugar from that ice cream. (As you can see in the second photo, someone started standing on her own like a big girl!)

I typically boycott Black Friday because I think retailers have just completely taken it overboard. But, I did have to make a stop by Walgreens this year. The entire store was 25% off, so I stocked up on Formula! ;) #momproblems. Jason’s brother stayed with us Friday night before returning home Saturday morning. Blaire had a lot of fun being able to spend some QT with her uncle. She’s was excited to have someone else to play with other than just mom and dad! On Saturday we ran errands and got some Christmas gifts checked off of our list. We also started putting together Blaire’s outfit for her picture with Santa! I’m sooo excited to see her in it. All that’s left is to find the perfect headband.

We ended our weekend with church on Sunday (where Blaire and I were twinning in our leopard print scarves), followed by naps and some Christmas decorating! Christmas Tree number one is up, and Blaire is pretty excited about it.

Next weekend we have a Christmas Party and Brunch with Santa at our country club! I’m so excited! What fun holiday things do you have on your calendar? xo

Pumpkin Patch Trip 2

This past weekend was so beautiful! It was in the low 70s and sunny, which made for perfect pumpkin pickin’ weather. We spent a few hours at a giant pumpkin patch about 45 minutes away. Jason and I actually went there when we first started dating because they have a giant corn maze (and I feel like every couple feels like they have to go to the pumpkin patch together). So it was fun to go back! We went on a hay-rack ride, walked around the pumpkin patch and watched a pumpkin canon shoot pumpkins almost a mile! Blaire wasn’t such a fan of the loud noise at first, but got used to it pretty quickly. Blaire loved the petting zoo and seeing all of the kids running around everywhere. Have I mentioned that she loves kids? Anytime she spots one she gets a giant smile. I think it has to do with the kids at daycare. It’s like she knows these people do funny things, so she better pay attention! Anyways, we all had a lot of fun and Blaire was asleep minutes after I buckled her into her seat.

She just loves her tiny pumpkin.

She’s adorable even with a mean mug.

Last week our country club had pumpkin decorating at family night. Here’s some photos of our pumpkin with her pumpkin. ;)

Can you believe Halloween is only two days away? I am SO excited to put Blaire in her bunny costume. What is your little one going to dress up as?

Another Weekend Gone

Happy Monday! I hope your weekend was as fun as ours! :) We are starting week 3 that our dishwasher has been broken. It is the worst! (I take that back. Having the washer or dryer break would be the worst. Dishwasher is third worst.) My dad is the fixer of all things and hasn’t been able to get it back up and running yet. Here’s hoping it is fixed next weekend because washing dishes by hand is a serious time-suck! Good thing doing the dishes is my husband’s thing and not mine. ;)

On Friday my brother was in town for a few job interviews. During his second interview he was offered the job on the spot, and he accepted! It’s his first big-kid job (he graduated from Pharmacy School this Spring) and I’m so proud of him! He came over to hang out with Blaire between his interviews, and to celebrate we took him out to dinner once Jason got home from work. Since he’s a good sport he went to Carter’s with us so I could buy Blaire this flannel shirt and this ADORABLE jumpsuit. On the way home we stopped for Whiteys Ice Cream. Yum! Once we got home Blaire got a kick out of hearing Jason’s brother announcing the high school game on the computer. She just loved hearing him say her name!

Photo Oct 17, 8 47 00 PM

On Saturday, my parents and one of my brothers came over bright and early (not really, it was 11am) so that my dad could fix the heater on our dishwasher. We had Happy Joe’s pizza for lunch (yummy!) and they headed home around 3pm. Then we had some errands to run, so we went to SAMs Club to return our ‘Simply Right’ baby wipes that were recalled. (You can find information on the recall here.) While we were there we had to check out the samples and we picked up those adorable Carter’s purple-striped pengiun PJs from my last post. They were only $8! From there we headed to Babies R Us because I had a 20% off coupon and $15 in Rewards. I have had my eye on this door jumper, and with the rewards and coupon it was $1.06. Win! If you haven’t already signed up for the Babies R Us Rewards program, then you’re missing out!

Our one last Saturday project was to move Blaire’s toys to the basement. Now that she’s older it seems like her toys are getting bigger and bigger, and she’s getting more and more of them. On Friday I realized the craziness that had become our living room. (See first photo below!) One of the best features of our house is the giant, finished basement. We’re so lucky that there’s plenty of space down there. We really only use half of it right now, so as she grows, she can take over the other side. But, for now we’ll share our space. ;)

On Sunday we started our morning with mass. Two babies were baptized during our service. Baptisms are so exciting. Blaire’s baptism feels like soooo long ago. (Does July count as soooo long ago?)  After mass we headed home to eat some lunch and let Blaire take a nap before we headed to the pumpkin patch. This was Blaire’s first time at the pumpkin patch and we were both super excited to take her. The patch we went to had lots of farm animals (pigs, cows, sheep, goats, chickens) and Blaire let out little squeals of happiness each time one of the animals made a noise. She seemed to really like watching the other kids feed the goats and pigs in the petting zoo. It was such a windy day, with no sun in sight, so it didn’t exactly make for the best photos. The good news is we’ll be heading to a different pumpkin patch with some friends this coming weekend! Here’s hoping it’s a sunny, gorgeous day. :)

Blaire was asleep for Nap #2 approximately 10 minutes after this second photo was taken. It’s hard work being carried around a pumpkin patch. Which reminds me, what did people do before baby wearing was so main stream? Thank God for this K’Tan wrap that I randomly found on sale at Target for $9. (It was an “Online Only” item that someone had returned in store. I couldn’t pass that up!) While the Baby Björn we have is easier/faster to put on, I think the K’Tan is much cozier, because it holds her closer to my body.

I just read in Parents Magazine that we have fewer than 1,000 Saturdays with our kids from the day they’re born until their 18th birthday (approx. 940). Talk about crazy! This was such an eye-opener to me. It makes me want to squeeze in even more bonding time during our precious weekends. How about you? How do you make the most of the weekends with your little one? xo
