Pumpkin Patch Trip 2

This past weekend was so beautiful! It was in the low 70s and sunny, which made for perfect pumpkin pickin’ weather. We spent a few hours at a giant pumpkin patch about 45 minutes away. Jason and I actually went there when we first started dating because they have a giant corn maze (and I feel like every couple feels like they have to go to the pumpkin patch together). So it was fun to go back! We went on a hay-rack ride, walked around the pumpkin patch and watched a pumpkin canon shoot pumpkins almost a mile! Blaire wasn’t such a fan of the loud noise at first, but got used to it pretty quickly. Blaire loved the petting zoo and seeing all of the kids running around everywhere. Have I mentioned that she loves kids? Anytime she spots one she gets a giant smile. I think it has to do with the kids at daycare. It’s like she knows these people do funny things, so she better pay attention! Anyways, we all had a lot of fun and Blaire was asleep minutes after I buckled her into her seat.

She just loves her tiny pumpkin.

She’s adorable even with a mean mug.

Last week our country club had pumpkin decorating at family night. Here’s some photos of our pumpkin with her pumpkin. ;)

Can you believe Halloween is only two days away? I am SO excited to put Blaire in her bunny costume. What is your little one going to dress up as?

Zipadee-Zip Update

Happy Tuesday! I’ve had quite a few questions about the Zipadee-Zip and thought I’d give a quick update. Our Zipadee-Zip came last Thursday (yay!). We tested it out that night and it didn’t go like I had planned. Blaire was awake about every two to three hours and would then fall back asleep. For the record, the reason Blaire wakes up is she just has crazy little hands. It’s like they’re restless. She rubs and rubs her eyes until she wakes herself up. And once she wakes herself up, she keeps rubbing so that she can’t fall back asleep. Sometimes she does it so much that she gets herself mad. It’s so strange, and our daycare provider said she has never had a baby do it… but I guess everyone has their thing, right? Swaddling has worked well, since it keeps her hands away from her face. She does break through occasionally, and we can just wrap her back up and she’ll fall right back asleep.

I love that she looks like a little, striped penguin.

I love that she looks like a little, striped penguin.

So, after it didn’t work for us that night, I jumped on their website to do some research. Fortunately, on their FAQ page, they have a whole section about how to transition your baby from the swaddle to the Zipadee-Zip.  It did state that you should try it during nap time first, to let your baby get used to the new freedom. Sooooo we’ve been trying that. She still wakes herself up from her naps by rubbing her eyes, but will typically doze back off. It also said to try to shrink it up a bit if it seems a little large… so I’ve washed and dried it twice. I ordered the Medium. She’s just barely over 20lbs and the creator of the Zipadee-Zip does say her daughter wore the Small up to 22lbs… so maybe that’s part of the issue, as well?! Tonight we’ll be starting the night off in the Zipadee-Zip. Here’s hoping she’s used to that new-found freedom and wants to sleep through the night. ;)

One random thing: I need suggestions for bibs! We bought some similar to these from Babies R Us and they’re just not good. They stain so easily and no matter what I try to get the stains out, I think they’re stuck for good. They were inexpensive, so I’m not too surprised. I just don’t want to pull out a bib that looks like it’s never been washed when we’re out somewhere. Lol!  I’m looking forward to your suggestions, and here’s hoping for a full night of sleep! xo

Blaire: 8 Months

Okay, I feel like I’m going to say this every, single month… but WHAT? How is Blaire 8-months-old already?  That means there’s only 4 more months until we’re celebrating her 1st Birthday. I can’t take it.

She just wants to stand allllll the time. Whether it’s in her bouncer or jumper, or walking with our help, or holding onto the side of the couch and using it to taking steps on her own… she just loves it! The smiles and giggles when she’s standing and taking steps are my favorite! She is so mobile now. She crawled (forward, with her belly off the ground) for the first time this weekend! She mostly just pulls herself forward when there’s something she wants to get. She can crawl backwards and sideways and roll all over the place. She can even go from crawling back to sitting on her own. She was so proud of herself the first few times she did it. Getting Blaire to sit still is easier said, than done. She’s just so curious about everything! Everything she hears. Everything she sees. Everything.

Blaire has started babbling more and more and it still sounds like she says “da da”, “dad” and “hey”. We love it! It’s so funny when she makes noises that sound like words. It just cracks us up! She still loves being outside and loves animals. The park we go to for walks has a large pond with lots of ducks, and their quacks always make her laugh. Watching her grow and develop her little personality is a greater joy than I ever could have imagined. I have always tried to spend a lot of time with my goddaughter (who is now 5!) as she has grown up. Through this, I’ve known first-hand that every new stage becomes your favorite. You may miss your tiny baby, but watching them learn is so exciting and rewarding… even more so when it’s your own baby!

I’ll be posting our 8 Month Must-Haves soon! I’d love to know what age has been your favorite with your little one. xo

Inspiration for Parents

We all know how hard it is to be a parent, no matter what age your child is. Sometimes it’s necessary to remind yourself that you’ll never get these moments back, and your child will never be younger than they are at this very moment. It may be hard when you just need to get something done, yet your child is only happy if you’re sitting right there on the floor with them. I always remind myself that in 13 years when she thinks I’m annoying/ruining her life, and she would rather be with her friends at the mall than on the floor playing with her mama, I’ll be happy I took every chance I had to play with/take 1,000 pictures of/nap with my little girl.

We all have those days when we’re over-tired/frustrated/annoyed. Or maybe it’s a day when we just need a reminder of how important it is to slow down and play with your child. The housework can wait! (Really!) These are some of my favorite inspirational sayings that I’ve found (mostly via Pinterest) to be especially helpful to me as a new mom.

Fewer than 1000 Saturdays with your child1. “From the day your child is born to the moment she turns 18, you have fewer than a thousand Saturdays together.” – Parents Magazine

I don't want to wake up quote3. I don’t want to look back on my life in twenty years and realize that I wasted the precious time I had with my children by living in a state of perpetual distraction. –Undivided Mom

Cleaning Can Wait - Children Grow Too Quickly4. Cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow, for babies grow up, we’ve learned to our sorrow. So settle down cobwebs. Dust go to sleep. I’m rocking my baby, and babies don’t keep. -Unknown

Children Become5. Children become what they are told they are. – Dorothy Delay

A Baby Will Make... Quote6. A baby will make love stronger, days shorter, nights longer, bankroll smaller, home happier, clothes shabbier, the past forgotten, and the future worth living for. -Unknown

I’m no parenting guru (I’ve only been at it for 8 months!). But I hope these words help you, as much as they help me. What words of wisdom help you get through rough days? I’d love to know! xo

Another Weekend Gone

Happy Monday! I hope your weekend was as fun as ours! :) We are starting week 3 that our dishwasher has been broken. It is the worst! (I take that back. Having the washer or dryer break would be the worst. Dishwasher is third worst.) My dad is the fixer of all things and hasn’t been able to get it back up and running yet. Here’s hoping it is fixed next weekend because washing dishes by hand is a serious time-suck! Good thing doing the dishes is my husband’s thing and not mine. ;)

On Friday my brother was in town for a few job interviews. During his second interview he was offered the job on the spot, and he accepted! It’s his first big-kid job (he graduated from Pharmacy School this Spring) and I’m so proud of him! He came over to hang out with Blaire between his interviews, and to celebrate we took him out to dinner once Jason got home from work. Since he’s a good sport he went to Carter’s with us so I could buy Blaire this flannel shirt and this ADORABLE jumpsuit. On the way home we stopped for Whiteys Ice Cream. Yum! Once we got home Blaire got a kick out of hearing Jason’s brother announcing the high school game on the computer. She just loved hearing him say her name!

On Saturday, my parents and one of my brothers came over bright and early (not really, it was 11am) so that my dad could fix the heater on our dishwasher. We had Happy Joe’s pizza for lunch (yummy!) and they headed home around 3pm. Then we had some errands to run, so we went to SAMs Club to return our ‘Simply Right’ baby wipes that were recalled. (You can find information on the recall here.) While we were there we had to check out the samples and we picked up those adorable Carter’s purple-striped pengiun PJs from my last post. They were only $8! From there we headed to Babies R Us because I had a 20% off coupon and $15 in Rewards. I have had my eye on this door jumper, and with the rewards and coupon it was $1.06. Win! If you haven’t already signed up for the Babies R Us Rewards program, then you’re missing out!

Our one last Saturday project was to move Blaire’s toys to the basement. Now that she’s older it seems like her toys are getting bigger and bigger, and she’s getting more and more of them. On Friday I realized the craziness that had become our living room. (See first photo below!) One of the best features of our house is the giant, finished basement. We’re so lucky that there’s plenty of space down there. We really only use half of it right now, so as she grows, she can take over the other side. But, for now we’ll share our space. ;)

On Sunday we started our morning with mass. Two babies were baptized during our service. Baptisms are so exciting. Blaire’s baptism feels like soooo long ago. (Does July count as soooo long ago?)  After mass we headed home to eat some lunch and let Blaire take a nap before we headed to the pumpkin patch. This was Blaire’s first time at the pumpkin patch and we were both super excited to take her. The patch we went to had lots of farm animals (pigs, cows, sheep, goats, chickens) and Blaire let out little squeals of happiness each time one of the animals made a noise. She seemed to really like watching the other kids feed the goats and pigs in the petting zoo. It was such a windy day, with no sun in sight, so it didn’t exactly make for the best photos. The good news is we’ll be heading to a different pumpkin patch with some friends this coming weekend! Here’s hoping it’s a sunny, gorgeous day. :)

Blaire was asleep for Nap #2 approximately 10 minutes after this second photo was taken. It’s hard work being carried around a pumpkin patch. Which reminds me, what did people do before baby wearing was so main stream? Thank God for this K’Tan wrap that I randomly found on sale at Target for $9. (It was an “Online Only” item that someone had returned in store. I couldn’t pass that up!) While the Baby Björn we have is easier/faster to put on, I think the K’Tan is much cozier, because it holds her closer to my body.

I just read in Parents Magazine that we have fewer than 1,000 Saturdays with our kids from the day they’re born until their 18th birthday (approx. 940). Talk about crazy! This was such an eye-opener to me. It makes me want to squeeze in even more bonding time during our precious weekends. How about you? How do you make the most of the weekends with your little one? xo

More Fall Style – Baby Edition

Well fall is in full effect here in Iowa. It’s been in the 50s each day and I couldn’t be more excited. My favorite part? As I’ve previously stated, it’s the clothes! I’m loving anything glittery, metallic, striped or just plain cozy… for myself and my mini. All of these items are adorable and fit the bill. The majority of these items are from Carters, which just happens to have 40% off of everything online right now. (Nothing states when the sale ends.) If you’re on their email list, then you’ve already received the coupon posted below, but if not, then here you go. You can either print it, or just present it in store. :)

Something else I’m super excited about? I just ordered Blaire a Zipadee-zip! (Find their website here and Facebook page here.) We saw them on Shark Tank a few weeks ago and I’ve been dying to get my hands on one. They just restocked them today and I placed an order immediately. If you’re not familiar, Zipadee-zips are sleep sacks that have parents raving about how miraculous they are. I haven’t seen a bad review yet. Most parents boast that it immediately made their child sleep through the night. I. SERIOUSLY. CAN’T. WAIT. TO GET OURS!

What are your favorite clothing pieces for your tiny person? Please let me know in the comments below. I’m always on the hunt for cute, new things. xo

I Love You, Weekend

Well another weekend has come and gone… why do they always fly by so quickly? We had such a fun and busy weekend hanging out with family and friends. Blaire was extra funny this weekend. She learned to babble “yeah” and “hey” and this morning she won’t stop saying “da da.” It is sooooo precious. I just can’t believe how quickly babies learn things. She likes to wave back (most of the time) if you wave to her. She also looks for Jason when you ask, “Where’s dad/daddy/da da?” She also does the same for our dog Mocha. She just adores Mocha! Her tooth is still not even half-way in (two and a half weeks later!). But it’s still adorable!

Hey there, little tooth!

Blaire & Mocha / Why do pet’s eyes always look so creepy from the flash?

Since we received our family photos on Friday, we wanted to add a photo collage on the wall in our living room to show them off. We had to spend some time shopping for items for our collage this weekend and I love how it turned out! Next up, new curtains. I’m loving these curtains from Target!

Random Mom Thing #1
Have you tried the diapers from The Honest Company? I signed up for the free trial and forgot to cancel before they sent me my first monthly subscription. I called in to cancel and they let me know it had actually been delivered that day. They said they’d email me a return label. The label never turned up in my Inbox and in a desperate emergency one day I had to open a package of diapers. I was secretly sooo excited we were keeping them because they’re so cute and they felt like they were such a nice quality. Well, I don’t love them. They just aren’t as absorbent as Pampers Swaddlers. (Not being paid to say this!) She definitely can’t wear them through the night. By 4AM she has already leaked through onto her PJs and her Swaddler. Nights when she slept through to 6AM, it had gone through to her bed sheet. She could be in the Pampers Swaddlers until 9AM and not have any problems with leaks. The other day she had been in her diaper for 2 hours and it leaked through, onto her pants and mine. Disgusting! My verdict: they’re super cute… but be prepared to change your child every, single hour. I get that they’re eco-friendly, so maybe absorbancy isn’t their thing. So if eco-friendly is your #1 then go for it! :) So far I love everything else that came in my bundles from The Honest Company. We have the wipes and the cleaning products and they all work very well.

Random Mom Thing #2
Have you tried to Up & Up Brand (Target) of formula? We tried the Infant Formula with Iron, which is comparable to Similac Infant. It was such a great deal, how could we not? Well it just didn’t seem to agree with poor Blaire’s tummy. She had never been constipated before and it was so heartbreaking. Granted, it could also have just happen to have overlapped with the certain combination of food she had eaten. But as soon as we switched back to Enfamil, she has been back to her old self. She has tried many different types of  Enfamil, including the Infant and the Supplementation. She’s also used different types of Similac and she hasn’t had a problem. Have you found any store brands that have agreed with your little one?

Well… Happy Monday to you! Here’s hoping your week flies by. xo

Fall Family Photo Sneak Peek

We just received our Fall Family Photos back from our photographer and I am absolutely in love with each and every one of them! I just had to share a few here on the blog. A little back story… these photos were taken at the country club where my husband and I met three years ago. We also took our engagement pictures here (two years ago!). We are so lucky to have met on such a beautiful golf course. It makes for amazing photos every time.

Hair Product Love

One thing I always have a love/hate relationship with is my hair! I was convinced pregnancy would give me the hair of my dreams… it didn’t!  I guess the positive side to not growing a lot of extra hair during pregnancy is that I didn’t have all of the postpartum hair loss (unless all of the hair Blaire rips out every day count)!

For the past few years, I was always blow drying and heat styling my hair. No wonder my hair never looks healthy! After Blaire was born I found myself with no time or energy to do my hair AND makeup if I had to go out in public. Makeup always won, and my hair went up in a bun. Sooo back in May I decided to cut about 3.5 inches off of my hair. The ends were looking damaged, and I was sick of the random layers I seemed to have due to breakage. I loved how much healthier it felt!

Fast forward to September, my hair had grown out a bit and it was just sooo boring! I got it trimmed and my bangs ended up about 2 inches shorter than the rest. That’s when I decided to go back in and have another 2.5  inches cut off. I love how much healthier is looks… and it’s a lot less boring!

Anyways, what I really want to talk about, are the various products I use… especially the shampoo that I think helped stop my breakage and helped me grown those 2.5 inches from the end of May until the beginning of September. (Not a lot for some people, super amazing for me!) When it comes to hair products, I have always been a loyal Redken & Pureology fan. Back in May, I was wandering up and down the aisles at Ulta and saw a newish hair brand that looked fun! The names were clever and it was reasonably priced, plus they were Buy 1 Get 1 50% Off! So what was there to lose?  The brand name is Not Your Mother’s and I love it! Below are a few of my favorites. I’d like to add that I’m willing to try anything if I think it can make my hair healthier, and these products really are among the best I’ve tried. I especially love the shampoo (because I really do think it stopped my hair’s breakage), the dry shampoo and the hairspray. I’ve never used hairspray because I hadn’t found one that wasn’t too sticky or heavy. Theirs is perfect!

This post is in no way sponsored. I just wanted to share an affordable and amazing hair line that I love. What are your favorite hair products? Like I said… I’m always willing to try something new! xo
